I often get asked, “What can I eat in place of sugar?”
I’m Dr. Keesha Ewers, and I’ve helped thousands of people get off sugar.
I am a recovering sugar addict and I have learned how to do this in the trenches. A quick, hot tip for how to replace your favorite sugary foods with something that’s a little healthier:
Use something called luo han, or Monk fruit – great to bake with. – Tweet this!
You can bake muffins and cookies and you only have a glycemic index of 1 as opposed to a glycemic index of 50 to 55, which is what sugar has, or honey or maple syrup. All of them very high.
Another favorite is Stevia, which you can add to raw foods. – Tweet this!
Here is my favorite chocolate mousse recipe calling for avocados, raw cocoa, vanilla, a little sea salt and a drop or two of Stevia.
Total Time: 5m Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
2 ripe avocados
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup almond milk
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/8 tsp sea salt
pinch stevia
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a Vita Mix blender or food processor and whip until smooth. Enjoy!
Add Stevia one drop at a time because it could be a very strong taste. You need to get just the right amount.
Those are two of my favorites for replacing sugar. Bonus: Yacon syrup, which is a great alternative for things that call for molasses. Again, a glycemic index of 1.
These are fantastic tips for swapping out for your favorite sugary foods.
