Some of you might know that my son married the love of his life last month in one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have ever seen. One of the parts of the ceremony I loved the most was when his wife said, “we are not meant to be together, we choose to be together. Over the last 11 years we have chosen each other again and again and again. This is not destiny or serendipity, this is conscious choice that we will continue to make for the rest of our lives.”
WOW! What wisdom from one so young..
She hit on something I wanted to mention here. I hear often from patients and students who are frustrated with the life style choices their body is asking for them to make. They want to know when they can “get back to normal” or “go back to the way things used to be.” As my new daughter-in-law said so eloquently, it is up to you to choose to be in collaboration with your body, mind, heart and spirit…again and again and again. It is up to you to choose health rather than vice. It is up to you to choose yourself over the crowd. It is up to you to choose self-care over self-destruction.
You could in effect, choose to marry yourself…join your mind, your body, your heart and your spirit in holy and sacred matrimony for the rest of your days until death do you part.
Do you (insert your name here), take your body as your sacred partner in life and in love, to have and to hold, to cherish and to honor until death do you part?

Now you are a family. A whole being that no one (but you) can divide asunder.
You might want to journal about this lovely ceremony of holy union you have just undertaken.
What vows do you need to write to yourself, to renew, or to live out?
Until next time… xo
