About eight years ago, after finishing another graduate degree, I was literally dragging myself out of bed every morning. I went from an energetic woman who hopped out of bed every morning to go running to a woman who kept hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock. I felt myself fighting falling asleep every afternoon at work. I couldn’t wait to go to bed every night; in fact, it was my new favorite time of day! I was exhausted. My memory was shot. I had been used to remembering every single patient’s story and plan of care without having to refer to their chart. In fact, many of my patients were amazed at what I considered a “normal memory.” However, with the extreme fatigue came extreme brain fog. I became alarmed and started searching for answers.
Yes, I had come out of grad school with phase 3 adrenal fatigue. I started on the protocol I knew worked for me…without the results I was looking for. My son had come home from college that summer on summer break. He was doing a lot of cooking, which meant tasting the food he was making and putting the spoon back in the pot. I always test my family’s labs each year around their birthdays. Never before had anyone in the family had mono or carried the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), until that summer. Just before I sent my son back to college I tested his labs to make sure he was balanced before returning to school. For the first time I saw a positive EBV titer in our home. With dawning clarity, I ran my own lab work. Unsurprised, I found I was also positive after having him home for a summer in our kitchen. Sure enough, our whole family now had EBV, thanks to my son’s time at college.
Did this mean I was destined to be exhausted for the rest of my life? To have a fragile immune system? To lack passion and zest for life? No. The good news is EBV is possible to put into remission. In fact, I began to see EBV as a bit of a friend. I knew that if I allowed myself to get run down, my little visitor would let me know through the mind numbing, bone crushing fatigue I had already experienced. It’s great to have an “idiot light” on the dashboard of your car to let you know how the engine is doing. You can think of EBV in this way.
So how do you know if you have EBV? The best way is to “test, don’t guess.” Here are some common symptoms.
Symptoms
It can take weeks for symptoms to appear after exposure to EBV. The first symptoms can look like the common cold: sore throat, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, fever, and malaise. What distinguishes EBV from the common cold or influenza is that once the other symptoms disappear, the fatigue remains. This can be accompanied by chronic pain.
How strong your immune system will determine how strong your symptoms are. Having an “inhospitable” environment for any virus or bacteria or parasite or fungus to move into is key. We live next to literally trillions of microbes. Trillions of microbes live within us. Being able to live in harmony is what we want to be able to do. It is only when we become imbalanced that we are prone to picking up any kind of infection.
How to Test for EBV
As I mentioned before, I test all of my patients for EBV. I do a complete blood count, functional medicine laboratory tests that look for root causes, and EBV blood titers. Elevations in white blood cells, lymphocytes, and monocytes can indicate an increase in immune activity likely due to viral presence.
How to Treat EBV
Modern medicine has no answers for treating EBV; rather, only for trying to mitigate symptoms. A “regular doctor” will likely prescribe steroids, anti-depressants, and pain medications in response to complaints of EBV symptoms, none of which do any good or actually address the root cause. Modern medicine and the CDC just kind of shrug their shoulders collectively since nearly everyone has EBV and it is assumed nothing can be done. However, by supporting the immune system, healing leaky gut, and reducing inflammation, EBV can be conquered.
I was able to cure my EBV and am going to share with you the protocol I used for myself and that I now use for my patients. Want to get rid of EBV? Read on.
Immuno mod has been formulated specifically for autoimmune conditions to help balance a healthy inflammatory response, which is necessary in order to help maintain optimal immune function in the body.
Immuno Gut – EF resets healthy immune tolerance and builds a stronger barrier to the external environment.
Viranol includes a powerful combination of key nutrients and botanical extracts that provide immediate support for immune challenges.
ImmunoCore is a scientifically formulated blend of nutrients specifically designed to boost cellular and mitochondrial energy production, maximize antioxidant capacity, support detoxification, and strengthen immune response.
Zinc Plus provides 54 mg of highly-absorbed zinc, ideally formulated using the amino acid chelate form of zinc (zinc glycinate) for enhanced absorption, optimal utilization and gastrointestinal (GI) comfort.
Vitamin C
You’ve likely heard that Vitamin C is powerful against the traditional cold and flu viruses, but it can also have a powerful impact on Epstein Barr. In 2014 a study showed that there was a reduction in viral load and an acceleration of healing when vitamin C was used against EBV. The levels of vitamin C needed to fight EBV cannot be obtained in diet.
Beta-Glucan
Beta Glucan comes from mushrooms and is a powerful immune-regulatory agent, which means it increases your body’s ability to fight off the EBV infection.
Olive Leaf Extract
Olive leaf has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral fighting ability. I always teach my Academy for Integrative Medicine health coach students that viruses, bacteria, and fungi do not come in singles. They are like cockroaches; where there is one there are many. Olive leaf is great because it will take on all of these organisms together.
These 3 power punches make Immuno Gut – EF a much needed multi-faceted agent that fights off EBV with the help of two other formulas: Immuno Mod and Zinc Plus.
Food Sensitivities
Very specific IGg mediator response testing for food sensitivities is key to reducing the inflammatory environment in which EBV thrives. Again, not all testing is created equally nor are all of them valid. I use the most advanced technology to determine which foods are causing immunological and inflammatory responses that keep EBV flourishing. This is an essential step in healing leaky gut. However, it’s not just about eliminating these foods; it’s equally important to heal the gut wall AND alter the immune response, which are all achieved with the supplements already covered.

Stress Management
The Stress Busting Tool Kit is the most incredible stress-busting, disease-reversing, pain-relieving technique ever invented! This technique has been used since 1932 to effectively treat migraine headaches, vaginismus, chronic pain, stress-induced illnesses (that is, nearly all illness), Raynaud’s disease, high blood pressure, and it helped me reverse and cure my autoimmune Rheumatoid Arthritis, EBV, and later my breast cancer naturally.
Here’s what some of my patients have to say about the very easy-to-master Stress Busting Tool Kit:
“I’ve noticed the last two weeks upon waking that the tightness and cramping in my hands has significantly decreased. I’ve been thinking about what could account for this after more than a year of these symptoms. I am already gluten free, dairy, soy, eggs, corn free. Limited grains and legumes. I was doing my Autogenic Training session and it occurred to me the Autogenic Training is making the difference. My feet feel much better as well.” – Kim C.
“It really helps me to say hello to the anxiety and then go on about my business. Then it doesn’t have the power over me like it did before! Your “Stress Busting Took Kit” is also a HUGE help as well as your book and the ways it offers to work through our emotions. I’m on the wonderful journey of creating the rest of my life! Thank you for being a treasured part of that! You really speak to and move me. I’m here to stay!.” – Lydia Chasen
