Over the last 10 years, I have had an increasing number of my patients coming into my office worried about Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.
There are two reasons that I see for this increase in fear around loss of cognitive function and memory:
- As we age, we begin to be confronted with care-giving aging parents or we might be noticing an inability to remember details the way we used to when we were younger.
- The prevalence of Alzheimer’s dementia is indeed on the rise.
There are over 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s today.
Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, an increase of 89% since 2000.
Alzheimer’s dementia is now considered an autoimmune disease. – Tweet this!
The sad truth is it is preventable and its progression can be halted. In my book, Solving the Autoimmune Puzzle, I outline the four corners of the autoimmune puzzle and give a simple framework for solving it.
Every person with autoimmune disease, be it Alzheimer’s dementia or lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, will have these four root causes:
1) Genetics.
2) Toxic Overload.
3) Intestinal Permeability (leaky gut).
4) Past Childhood or Adult Stress (or even trauma).
Each of these four corners of the puzzle will interplay with the others. By addressing all four simultaneously, the pattern can be broken and even re-built.
